Overcoming Resistance

Resistance expresses itself in our lives in a plethora of ways. Resistance is like a wall that separates us from everything that we desire.  Our wall may not be physical or tactile in nature , yet it keeps us trapped in our comfort zone.

The writer experiences writer’s block, the teacher doesn’t teach, and the entrepreneur doesn’t start a business, these are all examples of resistance.  Resistance isn’t inherently evil, it is our teacher.  By overcoming this resistance, we can begin anew.

If you have resistance in an area of your life, know that fear is lurking around the corner.  The only way to push through the barrier is to acknowledge the fear.  Through acknowledgement fear releases its hold and we can begin to gain momentum.  My heart used to be a harbor for resistance.  I recognized that the life I wanted to lead required that I let of such fears.

Amazing things happen to us and in our lives the moment we start to allow.  Steven Pressfield wrote one of my favorite quotes in The War of Art.

“Unseen forces enlist in our cause; serendipity reinforces our purpose.”

We start to gain momentum by waging war against resistance, leaning into possibility through our action.  Procrastination takes a back seat, it no longer is the driver.  Resistance has no control on the outcome of your life.  At first, we can’t defeat resistance.   Due to consistency, we slay the beast.  There is beauty found in the struggle and  hope found under the weight of this pressure.

We overthrown resistance through being intentional with our time, energy,  and humanity.  By acknowledging, naming it and deciding to do it any way.  It’s through rebelling against our resistance that we learn to find the courage, while trusting ourselves, a return to love.
