The Reasons behind our Reasons

Have you ever wondered why it is you do what you do?  Me too!!  Sometimes, I blow my own mind, I fully intend to do one thing and then poof, I do another.   Why does this happen?

The only way that I have ever been able to make change in my life is by doing something each and everyday.  When I started my blog, I told myself I would write three long blog posts a week.  In the first 30 days that this blog has existed, I made a grand total of 8 posts.  Yes, a few blog posts short!  I recently committed to writing a post each day.

Why?

To overcome my resistance to let go of my fear of failure.

My goal is to make little steps to gain momentum.  I did this on Dec. 28th last year, I set a goal to accumulate 12k-15k steps on my Fitbit.  By doing so I lost 15 lbs in the first 3 three weeks of walking.

I realized that in all of the areas of my life that I lacked direction it all came down to one thing.  A lack of momentum, coupled with a lack of urgency.  Hitting 30 years old this year, I can definitely feel as sense of urgency in my life.  This isn’t a midlife crisis for me, but it has been great moments of clarity.

My frustration was not that I couldn’t accomplish my dreams, lose weight, or get out of debt.  It was that I didn’t even really make any changes to shift my habits.  Everyone is putting off something and I was putting off more than I’d like to admit.  I hadn’t balanced a check book in years, I hadn’t prepared my budget, I wasn’t even aware of how much money was in my 401k.  All of those are things that I know I should be doing, but I don’t do them.

We don’t change our lives until we either decide to commit to being different today than we yesterday.  That’s the only way that I know how to make change in my life.  It’s been the recipe that I’ve used to create all of my successes.  I want to help people, I want to write, and I want to change my life.

A dream can’t be accomplished by being a spectator in your own  life.

I have to take ownership and the only way I know how is to make it a daily ritual.  I encourage you to imagine your day, what rituals do you have and where will these rituals take you in 1 year, 5 years and 10 years from now.  It can be a sobering experience, but sometimes that is the only way to make change.

When it comes to things like saving, paying off debt or planning for the future most of us are guilty of not giving enough attention.  Not even to mention things like relationships, family and friends.  Overcoming the resistance of creating a budget, a debt hit list, a plan for your future, going back to college, starting that side hustle, or losing that weight all starts with acknowledging the discomfort and doing it anyway.

Fear is just excitement in need of an ass kicking! Go forth and kick!
